Maps of Independence
The museum of the American REvolution
The Map of Independence is an interactive map and timeline that allows users to explore how the idea of independence and revolution spread across the 13 colonies from January to July of 1776. It highlights the perspectives of colonists, Native Americans, loyalists, and those who remained neutral. The users are also able to explore the 88 regional declarations that preceded Thomas Jefferson's famous Declaration of Independence.
Some of the technical details I'm proud of in this project include the animated map and the interactive timeline. A simple image sequence was used to achieve the visual of the "blue" of independence spreading across the country. The biggest challenge there was ensuring the high-quality imagery didn't negatively impact performance or memory. The interactive timeline was a key component of how users use the application. A lot of time and attention to detail was put into the feel of dragging the timeline to give the best experience.
